Clickstreams

11.03.2009 admin

An American team believes to describe science activity by web clicks on journal pages.

Over the course of 2007 and 2008, we collected nearly 1 billion user interactions recorded by the scholarly web portals of some of the most significant publishers, aggregators and institutional consortia.

with the conclusion

Maps of science resulting from large-scale clickstream data provide a detailed, contemporary view of scientific activity and correct the underrepresentation of the social sciences and humanities that is commonly found in citation data.

It seems that books are missing from their analysis read in myriads of libraries and archives. It may be even not known to many people that

their log data tracks user interactions across the boundaries of individual publisher collections

So clearly the authors link your IP to your interests. Hopefully your university uses dynamic IPs … Frightening, when will my clickstream be mapped to my blog by the way of my EEG?
