I am all that hath been, and is, and shall be

Following the vision of an universal god in the recent post, Assmann traces also Cudworth’s invisible god who himself cites Plutarch. From “On Isis and Osiris”:

XI. I am all that hath been, and is, and shall be; and my veil no mortal hath ever yet uncovered

This is quite different when Moses met God at the Horeb

Exo 3:6 ויאמר אנכי אלהי אביך אלהי אברהם אלהי יצחק ואלהי יעקב ויסתר משׁה פניו כי ירא מהביט אל האלהים׃

where Moses kept his face covered for fear of looking on God. This seems to be even transcended by the message of Jesus

1 Pe 1:20 caused to be seen in these last times

who is supposed to have said

Joh 12:45 καὶ ὁ θεωρῶν ἐμὲ θεωρεῖ τὸν πέμψαντά με

he who sees me, sees him who sent me.
