There are only 13 databases<!--more--> with gene-disease associations. Although highly needed by everybody &#8211; patients, diagnostic companies, medical doctors, scientists &#8211; no database has sufficient funding for realtime monitoring of the scientific literature. Not even one cent of largely funded EU consortia is being invested into human disease-gene database. Database management remains a time consuming, frustrating enterprise as long as institutes don\u00c2\u00b4t share data on a regular basis and as long as databases don\u00c2\u00b4t produce &#8220;impact points&#8221; &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nature.com\/nature\/journal\/v435\/n7045\/full\/4351010a.html\">databases in peril<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div class=\"bottom-note\">\n  <span class=\"mod1\">CC-BY-NC Science Surf , accessed 06.04.2026<\/span>\n <\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A new review paper about online genetic databases nicely summarizes the current state of the art (including my own efforts).
