{"id":1212,"date":"2007-09-25T19:06:38","date_gmt":"2007-09-25T17:06:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.wjst.de\/blog\/2007\/09\/25\/the-road-not-taken\/"},"modified":"2025-02-06T13:20:34","modified_gmt":"2025-02-06T11:20:34","slug":"the-road-not-taken","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.wjst.de\/blog\/sciencesurf\/2007\/09\/the-road-not-taken\/","title":{"rendered":"The road not taken"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>When discussing the problem of inducing allergy by rickets prophylaxis <a href=\"http:\/\/www.elsevier.de\/blatt\/d_bs_download&amp;_id=993251\">I have argumented earlier<\/a> that there are many alternatives:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>abandon daily oral prophylaxis in the general population (attn risk of t1d, rickets, pneumonia)<\/li>\n<li>reduce daily oral dose with <em>on demand therapy<\/em><\/li>\n<li>use only 1-3 single oral shots as in former East Germany<\/li>\n<li>exchange water-soluble by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jacionline.org\/article\/PIIS0091674906017751\/abstract\">oily<\/a> form<\/li>\n<li>use chemically modified isomeres<\/li>\n<li>co-application with &#8220;physiological&#8221; substances also in liver cod oil like Ca2+, P, vitamin A&#8230;<\/li>\n<li>co-application with &#8220;non-physiological&#8221; Cpg ODN&#8230;<\/li>\n<li>switch to parenteral application<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>There is even another option that I missed so far\u00a0 &#8211; the parental application. Supplementation of the mother might work if given ~6000 IU\/die to the mother as been nicely shown in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/sites\/entrez?Db=pubmed&amp;Cmd=ShowDetailView&amp;TermToSearch=17661565&amp;ordinalpos=4&amp;itool=EntrezSystem2.PEntrez.Pubmed.Pubmed_ResultsPanel.Pubmed_RVDocSum\">a new study<\/a>.<a title=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.wjst.de\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/09\/routeb.png\" data-rel=\"key-image-0\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.wjst.de\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/09\/routeb.png\" alt=\"routeb.png\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The principle is not very new &#8211; probably known <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pubmedcentral.nih.gov\/articlerender.fcgi?artid=1252099\">since 1927<\/a>.
