{"id":13283,"date":"2019-08-21T07:23:03","date_gmt":"2019-08-21T07:23:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.wjst.de\/blog\/?p=13283"},"modified":"2019-08-21T07:30:34","modified_gmt":"2019-08-21T07:30:34","slug":"more-mutations-more-asthma","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.wjst.de\/blog\/sciencesurf\/2019\/08\/more-mutations-more-asthma\/","title":{"rendered":"More mutations, more asthma?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>While <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pubmed\/29314275\">some researchers<\/a> still believe that genetics cannot be responsible for the asthma epidemic as the prevalence increased with only two generations I have no doubt that (within the gene by environment framework) any environmental change is a necessary but not sufficient cause.<br \/>\nI would count also epigenetic changes as &#8220;genetic&#8221; while there seems now <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pubmed\/31424543\"> even direct evidence of an increased mutational load in humans<\/a><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>While the overall deleterious homozygosity has consistently decreased, risk alleles have steadily increased in frequency over that period of time.
