When preparing now a lecture on medical consequences of the climate crisis ( based on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thelancet.com\/journals\/lancet\/article\/PIIS0140-6736(19)32596-6\/fulltext\">2019 Lancet\u00a0 Report<\/a> ) I found an intriguing piece at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unhcr.org\/climate-change-and-disasters.html\">UNHCR website<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>According to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.internal-displacement.org\/global-report\/grid2018\/\">Internal Displacement Monitoring Centre<\/a>, there were 18.8 million new disaster-related internal displacements already in 2017. Displacement across borders also occurs, and may be interrelated with situations of conflict or violence. From the legal side, however, there are no &#8220;climate refugees&#8221;, as a refugee is defined as a person who has crossed an international border<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>owing to well-founded fear of being persecuted for reasons of race, religion, nationality, membership of a particular social group or political opinion<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The full document is at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.refworld.org\/pdfid\/5906e0824.pdf\">https:\/\/www.refworld.org\/pdfid\/5906e0824.pdf<\/a>.
