{"id":15411,"date":"2020-02-28T10:07:32","date_gmt":"2020-02-28T10:07:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.wjst.de\/blog\/?p=15411"},"modified":"2020-02-28T14:26:10","modified_gmt":"2020-02-28T14:26:10","slug":"about-the-psychology-of-scientists","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.wjst.de\/blog\/sciencesurf\/2020\/02\/about-the-psychology-of-scientists\/","title":{"rendered":"About the psychology of scientists"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It is my impression that most of the scientific misconduct cases are not the result of intentional fraud (<a href=\"https:\/\/science.sciencemag.org\/content\/362\/6413\/394.1\">with some exceptions<\/a>) but self deception, poor education, indifferent handling of facts and wrong rewards.<\/p>\n<p>Dorothy Bishop thinks <a href=\"https:\/\/metascience.com\/events\/metascience-2019-symposium\/dorothy-bishop-psychology-of-scientists\/\">that the role of cognitive biases in sustaining bad science is underestimated<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>I shall argue, however, that to improve scientific practices we need to go deeper, to understand and counteract the mechanisms that maintain bad practices \u2013 not just at the institutional level, but in individual people&#8230;<br \/>\nMuch has been written about how we might tackle the so-called \u201creplication crisis\u201d. There have been two lines of attack. First, there are those who emphasise the need for better training in experimental design and statistics.
