The list is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.blackwell-synergy.com\/doi\/abs\/10.1111\/j.1399-3038.2006.00456.x\">already rather long<\/a> but now there is a prominent addition: CD14. Known as <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nature.com\/gene\/journal\/v7\/n2\/abs\/6364284a.html\">asthma gene for many years<\/a> the vitamin D dependency isn&#8217;t such clear. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pubmedcentral.nih.gov\/articlerender.fcgi?tool=pubmed&#038;pubmedid=18385805\">A clever analysis<\/a>, however, now shows that there is an intermediate step involved<!--more--><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\nCalcitriol (1\u00ce\u00b1, 25-dihydroxyvitamin D3) induces the expression of CD14 in mononuclear phagocytes. The mechanisms accounting for this have been unclear since the promoter of CD14 does not contain a canonical vitamin D response element (VDRE).
