By applying this <\/span>method to 13 million citation sentence pairs, we uncovered several key insights into the dynamics\u00a0of scholarly communication and show citation fidelity is higher with closer proximity. Through a quasi-causal experiment, we further establish that the \u201ctelephone effect\u201d contributes to information loss: when citing papers exhibit low fidelity to the\u00a0<span class=\"s2\">original claim, future papers that cite both the citing paper and the original show even lower fidelity <\/span><span class=\"s3\">to the original.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<figure id=\"attachment_24818\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-24818\" style=\"width: 601px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-24818 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.wjst.de\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Bildschirmfoto-2025-03-12-um-16.19.41.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"601\" height=\"298\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-24818\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Fig4 in Citation fidelity is negatively correlated with the seniority of first authors<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Clearly incorrect or misleading information couldn&#8217;t be identified in this study although the definition a cut-off should be possible. <\/p>\n<p>And well, I would be also very interested if there are differences by scientific field.<\/p>\n\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div class=\"bottom-note\">\n  <span class=\"mod1\">CC-BY-NC Science Surf , accessed 08.04.2026<\/span>\n <\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>There is a super interesting study on citation quality in scientific studies.
