Some years later, asthma turned out to be a disease of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science?_ob=ArticleURL&#038;_udi=B6VS1-4M2WP0H-1&#038;_user=10&#038;_coverDate=12%2F31%2F2006&#038;_rdoc=1&#038;_fmt=&#038;_orig=search&#038;_sort=d&#038;view=c&#038;_acct=C000050221&#038;_version=1&#038;_urlVersion=0&#038;_userid=10&#038;md5=f82f196ac680310186e657ac6928bc25\">bone marrow cells<\/a>. More recently, I raised the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.blackwell-synergy.com\/doi\/abs\/10.1111\/j.1399-3038.2006.00456.x\">question<\/a> if asthma could be even a disease of the gut &#8211; our largest immunological organ being frequently exposed to allergen &#038; plenty of immunological active substances. Although on the different track (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.blackwell-synergy.com\/doi\/abs\/10.1111\/j.1365-2222.2006.02630.x\">vitamin A<\/a>) also other authors now think of an early impaired immune gut response.<br \/>\nRather unexpected for me was a study in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/entrez\/query.fcgi?db=pubmed&#038;cmd=Retrieve&#038;dopt=AbstractPlus&#038;list_uids=17270431&#038;itool=pubmed_DocSum\">J Steroid Biochem Mol Biol<\/a> that 1,25(OH)2D3 inhibits in vitro and in vivo intracellular growth of the parasite Toxoplasma gondii. yea, yea.<\/p>\n\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div class=\"bottom-note\">\n  <span class=\"mod1\">CC-BY-NC Science Surf , accessed 13.06.2026<\/span>\n <\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>When starting in the asthma field in 1989, the textbooks told me that asthma is a disease of the lung.
