A new paper in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.firstmonday.org\/issues\/issue12_2\/stimulate\/index.html\">first monday<\/a> highlights another search engine that allows even truncation of search terms*: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.exalead.com\/search\/homepage\">Exalead<\/a> is a European (Paris) based search engine which does allow truncation and has a nice interface too.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"imagelink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.wjst.de\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/03\/exalead.png\" title=\"\" data-rel=\"key-image-0\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\"><img decoding=\"async\" id=\"image747\" src=\"https:\/\/www.wjst.de\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/03\/exalead.png\" alt=\"exalead.png\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h3>Addendum<\/h3>\n<p>A new series of papers in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bmj.com\/cgi\/content\/extract\/334\/7593\/561?maxtoshow=&#038;HITS=10&#038;hits=10&#038;RESULTFORMAT=&#038;fulltext=%22journal+rankings%22&#038;searchid=1&#038;FIRSTINDEX=0&#038;resourcetype=HWCIT\">BMJ<\/a> discusses some alarming consequences of &#8220;impact&#8221; measurements<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\nThe impact factor now has a worrying influence not just on publication of papers but on the science behind them too &#8230; One consequence has been to make universities prioritise laboratory based life sciences that produce research published in the highest impact factor journals, causing substantial damage to the clinical research base.\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>that goes beyond the previous view of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bmj.com\/cgi\/content\/full\/314\/7079\/497\">Seglen<\/a>.  <\/p>\n\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div class=\"bottom-note\">\n  <span class=\"mod1\">CC-BY-NC Science Surf , accessed 17.04.2026<\/span>\n <\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In my experience Google Scholar already shows more counts than ISI Web of Science.
