Food-allergic babies at 1-6 months of age had\u00a0decreased abundances of genera in Bacteroidetes (Parabacteroides and Alistipes).<\/p>\n<p>Interestingly, a new\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nature.com\/ng\/journal\/vaop\/ncurrent\/full\/ng.3695.html\">genome-wide association study<\/a> of the gut microbiota using two cohorts from Northern Germany identified genome-wide significant associations for microbial variation and individual taxa at multiple genetic loci, including the VDR gene. \u00a0To further explore this association, they\u00a0analyzed gut microbiota data fin Vdr\u2212\/\u2212 mice, confirming that loss of Vdr in mice substantially affects diversity. A more\u00a0detailed exploration also showed that VDR consistently influences individual bacterial taxa such as Parabacteroides.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-8438 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.wjst.de\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/screen-1.jpg\" alt=\"screen\" width=\"400\" height=\"278\" \/><\/p>\n<p>So, is this a missing link?-<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wjst.de\/blog\/sciencesurf\/2016\/05\/bacteria-vitamin-d-and-allergy\/\">Can vitamin D supplementation<\/a> influence the gut microbial flora?
