Which wireless SD card for the Nikon D4?

I have tried several wireless SD cards so far. Starting with an Eye Fi back in 2013, it worked just two days before dying unexpectedly. I used a rather thick Compact Flash I adapter at that time that worked only in the Canon CF card slots, while there are now thin (3,3mm) adapter available for Nikon DSLRs. My Amazon seller was “CSL” but there is another “Flashwoife” who may help you.

I then tried the Transcend 16GB Class 10 WI-FI SDHC card which was a complete failure – two cards showed a Wifi signal in the Lexar 3.0 USB adapter but not when being used in the Nikon D4.

Finally the Toshiba FlashAir 16GB WiFi-SDHC-Speicherkarte (Class 10)  is now working. It turned out that the Nikon powers the card adapter only during picture review and menu settings.

So I increase the c4 “menus” setting to 5 minutes to allow the Toshiba FlashAir app safely accessing the card file system.

Picture quality needs to be set to NEF(RAW)+JPEG(Basic) where only the JPG is being transferred (the NEF file only when being accessed from the file menu).

The corresponding Toshiba FlashAir app also works flawlessly, so I can twitter now a picture as fast as all those mobile phone users ;-)
