2015 XAlps

The Red Bull X-Alps is an adventure races in which athletes hike or fly more than 1,000 km across the Alps. It first launched in 2003 and has since taken place every other year (see also 2011 here). As one athlete had to drop out just before the race start, there are now 32 competing teams. They must navigate their way via a predetermined set of turnpoints covering such diverse mountains like Gaisberg, Dachstein, Kampenwand, Zugspitze, Cima Tosi, Piz Corvatsch, Matterhorn, Montblanc & Annecy. Every distance must be covered either on foot or by paraglider. Teams consist of one athlete and one official supporter, whose provides technical advice, mental and nutritional support. New to the 2015 race is the Powertraveller Prologue, a one day hike and paragliding precompetition around the local Zwölferhorn. Start and finish is at Fuschl am See, which offers a good chance to get closer to the athletes and to see them compete in one location. Following the prologue (July 2nd) there is also some material here from Leermoos (turnpoint 4) on July 8th and Passo Tonale (east of turnpoint 5) on July 8th and 9th.
