This morning Bayern 4 was playing Gioachino Rossini’s asthmatic etude. Describing more the murmuring of COPD than of asthma Rossini has written about 150 pieces for piano, vocal or small ensembles that were performed at his private soirees. The ironic titles of these pieces show how he attacked the musical empire writing such spasmodic pieces, romantically chopped melodies and a gruesomely not danceable waltz.
