Geoffrey Hinton, the new physics Nobel prize winner, had also a big influence on the biology and omics field. This cannot be emphasized enough when reading his 2008 paper on “Visualizing Data using t-SNE” and the current implementation at  t-SNE and UMAP projections in R.
