The first computer was used for astronomical calculations

A reconstruction of the Antikythera mechanism finally succeeded. It is based on pieces that were found on a Roman-era shipwreck in Greece in 1901 and is probably 2000 years old — a hand-powered device that is thought to have been used to predict eclipses and other astronomical events.
